Never fear… there is more to come from VillageWorks. Things are changing and growing. We still meet for community times every week. Thursday nights at Common Table. We had some great raffle prizes and some amazing silent auction items as well. I think most who took part came away with something good… especially Don!

We’ll keep you posted on more important matters with VillageWorks as the days go by. Next steps are making sure everything is squared away with our bank account and that we are continuing to bring in art supplies and tools.

Wednesday, August 11 (6:00-10pm), VillageWorks is is having our first Big Event and Fundraiser.

Things to bring…

1. Tools and art supplies for the Hub. Remember 5 lbs = 5 raffle tickets!
2. Your creative side! We will have things for you to create.
3. Your Dancing Shoes! Leif James will be playing.
4. Financial donations. This will be to help us get the Hub up and running.
5. Money for Food, Drink, and Raffle prizes!
6. YOUR FRIENDS!! This is a community non-prof and a community event. We do after all, rock the village…

Trust me this is going to be FUN!!

This, I promise you, will be one rockin’ evening. The Bend Roots Revival, along with a number of food venues, and Dave Hill, the owner of the Century Center have teamed up to host a weekly music and non-prof event to help raise community awareness towards local non-profs and also to promote the epic local music event Bend Roots Revival.

Part of what VillageWorks is all about is promoting health and sustainability in our community. If there’s anything that promotes a healthy community it’s what we put in and on our bodies. Check this video!

We are happy to receive any items or monetary donations you’d like to offer as we are just getting started.
All donations are tax deductible.

For the purposes of the tool scavenger hunt, all donations must be in by September 1, 2010.

I suppose it is important for me to answer the question…

Why the Village?

So for us, when it comes to community, the village is where its at. Specifically, the village is the most vibrant form of community that we can imagine. Here’s what it looks like (and please add to the list with your additions):

• Intergenerational connectedness
• Creativity
• Sharing of of our abundance (financial, time, generational, knowledge, food, etc)
• Celebrating all stages and transitions in life
• Living in awareness of how our choices effect the planet
• Sharing meals together
• Gathering for the “normal” things in life

What else would you add to this list of vibrant and mature community?

Lots is happening with VillageWorks these last few weeks. We always need whatever resources or help you can give… we are after all celebrating the abundance that we have in the community and repurposing it back.

Here’s what’s new:

• We are still looking for a space (commercial, 2000 to 4000 square feet, good for a tool library / craft shack / etc)
• We are planning a HUGE community event in the first half of June. Stay tuned for that!
• Looking for businesses, organizations, and foundations to partner with (financially, tools and art supplies, and networking)
• We are getting the website up, the graphics prepared, etc
